Buzz!

With summer rapidly approaching my sister asked if I'd buzz my nephew's head. He looks like a completely different person. I have a feeling his new doo will eliminate the number of women referring to him as "such a cute little girl."

Yum Yum...Super Natural Every Day!

I just purchased a cookbook called Super Natural Every Day. So far...I love it! There are some very simple and delicious vegetarian recipes in it that are easy to make for a relatively quick dinner. Here is an example of our dinner last night...a white bean and cabbage side dish and veggie curry.

Season Finale

Total days spent on skis this season: Seven.

Yesterday marked our final snow-fueled finale. We drove north towards the Galena Summit and skinned up a ridgeline we'd spotted during our snow shoe outing last week with my folks. The snow was not good and the elevation had an impact on both of us. As for the skiing? It's skiing! Of course it was amazing! And, we had a brief glimpse at all of the possibilities the Sawtooth backcountry has to offer!

It's official. Winter is on its way out. Our season was short. Our season was geographically diverse. Our season was great!

Here's to next winter! May it come tomorrow!

HOT...WARM...COLD Springs

Yesterday Riley and I went on an afternoon adventure to check out the local hot springs scene in Ketchum, Idaho. It was a fun 8 mile long mountain bike ride out to the springs on mostly dirt road. Compared to the springs of Thermopolis, WY or other such destinations that boast of geothermal heat sources, The Frenchman Hot Springs out warm springs road is primitive, relaxed, and relatively secluded.

A few moments after our arrival an SUV pulled up. A lady opened the car door (car parked in the middle of the road) and, with a cigarette glued to her lips, reached down to touch the water exclaiming, "It's not even a little bit warm!" So there it was...a cold springs. Nice for us, that meant that after snapping a quick picture the couple in the SUV went on there way. Riley and I then worked to figure out how to make that bath hot! We spent a while building up and reinforcing the rock barrier that is supposed to separate the rest of the river's (cold) current from where the hot water is bubbling in. It was a task that we could not complete with the resources we had and the cold weather, though I do think that we made a dent. The water seemed much warmer to me as I heated my chilled hands, but that could have been the relative temperature difference. Who knows? All I know is that it felt good.

After a faster ride back on the downhill, Riley and I enjoyed the warmth of a different type of hot springs. Ahhh...where there isn't a natural hot springs, may a human's hand install a hot tub!

It has been a treat to be here in Ketchum where we can run, walk, bike, swim, climb, and study everyday.

Sawtooth Excursion

This morning, Cait, my folks, and I drove north into the Sawtooth Mountains and took a snow-shoed tour of the Galena Summit. The wind was whipping up on the ridge lines and the view was extraordinary.

What a Very Merry Christmas...Gift

Riley gave us plane tickets to visit my Grandmother in Philadelphia for Christmas. So that is where we are! We spent the last four days staying with Ruth, my grandmother, just outside of the city. It has been wonderful to catch up and for Riley to get to know her. We are very lucky people.

We spent one day in the city visiting with college and childhood friends. We also walked around a lot. It was great!
